Sega Saturn CG Collection (セガサターン CGコレクション)[1] is a Video CD (VCD)[2] showcasing various pieces of computer generated imagery, namely those related to the Sega Saturn. This disc remains exclusive to Japan. The disc includes high quality opening and ending videos of several Ssega Saturn games, and even other cool content related to each game. One such game that has content included on the disc is the first Clockwork Knight game, with it’s opening “Clockwork Knight” and ending credits “A Lullaby” videos, and even features two special CG image galleries for the game!

As this was a video CD, the files are compressed as ancient MPEG-1 files, meaning some compression, but it also means no horrible Cinepak or the better, yet still compressed Duck TrueMotion codec here. The result is the best ever releases of the Intro and Ending videos. My only criticism would be that there appears to be an even so slight blur/softening to the video, meaning the appearance is slightly less crisp than the Saturn versions. This is possibly because it was compressed using an NTSC resolution and framerate, as I’ve noticed the same kind of effect happen when experimenting with video resolutions and framerates myself. Regardless, it’s still amazing.
